SOME WAYS COLD LASER SERVICES MAY BE CODED
Cold Laser Therapy works best with active ROM and is done with the patient moving the affected area through this range of motion as much as possible, within limits of area and pain present. The coding and billing of these active physical therapy services can be done under active physical therapy CPT codes.
We suggest that the documentation (clinical treatment notes) for these services include the following notation: "Above services done with accompanying photo-stimulation"
That way you will know when you look back on your notes you have done Low Level Laser Therapy in this particular case.
Active CPT codes we have seen used include Range of Motion Therapy and Tractioning as well as some or all of the following:
